An Edge Controller such as the WISE-2841M can provide local control at the Edge in a large factory setup or be used as the main controller in a smaller setup. It typically fills the gap between an Intelligent Remote IO device and a PAC (Programmable Automation Controller). If used in a larger setup then the Edge Controller can lighten the load on the main control computer.
